Description
While the United States recognizes a defendant’s right to counsel in criminal cases, it doesn’t extend that right to cases involving housing, child custody, immigration, and other civil matters. The lack of a civil right to counsel creates and exacerbates injustices for individuals who can’t afford, or otherwise access, legal representation. This virtual symposium brought together a panel of leading scholars and practitioners who examined this justice gap and considered approaches to improving access to civil counsel.
